A partnership of local agencies needs your help in the form of donated food and toys to assist families in need for the holidays.

The Chula Vista Welfare Council, Chula Vista Community Collaborative and the Chula Vista Police Activities League all teamed together for a series of “Drive-Thru Donation” events to help provide resources for families in need in our District over the holidays. Students and staff at District schools as well as employees at the Education Services and Support Center annually collect canned food for the welfare council and toys for the activities league.

The next “Drive-Thru Donation Event” takes place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the District’s Education Service and Support Center, located at 84 East J Street, Chula Vista.

Organizers encourage families, community groups and District employees to bring a bag of canned food/new toys to donate.

With District schools still closed due to COVID-19, drive-thru donation events are crucial to obtain the food and toys necessary to make a difference in our local communities, where the need has only grown these last several months.

“Especially now with the pandemic, we know there are going to be more families that are going to be food insecure than ever,” said Vanessa McEvoy, president of the Chula Vista Police Activities League. “We partnered with three other organizations to try and meet that need. We want to get these families additional food resources, as well as a little hope through the toy drive.”

Sorting foodLast year, the agencies served about 1,300 families. This year’s goal is 2,500 families. “We’re going to need canned food, toys, and gift cards especially for our teens, who are really having a hard time. They don’t have school activities, sports or a lot of hope this time of year. We need to make sure they are included in our hope giving.”

The Chula Vista Police Activities League also accepts donations through its Square site: Donate Now or by using the following QR Code. Donations made via the website will be used to buy those items in greatest need when organizers finalize all physical donations.
