David Peña, Muralist

It was a trip down memory lane for cross-border professional artist David Peña. He attended Greg Rogers Elementary as a child. His work has been featured in both traditional media and new media, ranging from Juxtapoz, the Los Angeles Times, and KCET television to showings at Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Ensenada (UABC), Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), and many other locales in San Diego and Tijuana. He recently worked on and then celebrated the unveiling of Rogers' new mural with students, staff and community at his former campus. Principal Janette Ridgels shared recently about the project, which supports the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative. The mural is a visual representation of the school’s focus on ensuring equitable learning experiences for all children, experiences that support their academic success as well as social emotional wellness.
