First Place Artwork by Amsi Gonzalez-Lopez

With her festive drawing of a familiar winter character, first-grade student Amsi Gonzalez-Lopez won first place in the Chula Vista Elementary School District’s 2018 holiday greeting card competition. Area schools selected student artwork to advance to the District competition. Judging of the school entries by District staff and community members took place on December 7.

Amsi’s drawing graces the cover of the District holiday card being distributed electronically to more than 27,000 households. In addition, approximately 150 printed cards are being mailed to community leaders, and District partners. The competition helps generate community goodwill and appreciation of student artwork through cards designed and created by students. California Coast Credit Union and Copy Link are the event sponsors.

Amsi, who attends Myrtle S. Finney Elementary, will receive a $100 cash prize. Riley C. Fultz, a sixth-grade student at Chula Vista Hills, took second place and will receive $75. Lilly Kane, a sixth-grade student at Joseph Casillas Elementary, captured third place and will receive $55. The winning entries are on display in the lobby of the California Coast Credit Union branch in the Terra Nova Plaza Shopping Center, 386 East H St, Suite 213. Entries from each of the schools that participated are on display in the Board Room of the Chula Vista Elementary School District.

"We have amazingly talented and creative students in our District," said Superintendent Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D. "The entries were incredible and reflect not only the students' artistic talents, but their ability to weave in messages and themes."
